Training
We currently provide training workshops on plain language and accessible communications.
We offer:
- one-off sessions or multiple sessions for larger organisations
- half-day or full-day workshops
- online or in-person delivery
- flexible dates and times.
We try to keep the groups to no more than 15 people so everyone can get the most out of the training. If you have a bigger group, contact us to discuss your options.

Plain language training
Is your message getting lost among the jargon? Are your readers put off by the passive voice? Learn how to make your writing clear, concise and easy to understand with our plain language training. We offer half-day and full-day group workshops, online or in person.

What’s included
Our training covers the principles and tools you can apply to a range of communications and audiences. We tailor the session to suit the needs and goals of your team, with a mix of knowledge-building, examples and lots of practical exercises.
Topics include:
- principles and standards of plain language
- understanding your audience
- key features of plain language writing
- reading levels and testing readability
- creating a plain language document.
Each participant gets a workbook with key information, exercises, checklists and links to resources.

Understanding accessible communications
This workshop is fun, interactive and informative. It helps end the ‘tick the box’ approach to accessibility by giving you a deeper understanding of why you need to do this important work.

What’s included
Our training covers the ‘who’, ‘what’ and ‘why’ of accessible communications – who needs them, what they are and why they are important. You will take away a series of tools and resources that you can use in your everyday work to improve your communications and make them more accessible.
Topics include:
- the barriers that different user groups might experience when accessing your content
- making language accessible and inclusive
- reading levels and testing readability
- visual design for different user groups
- what it means to make a PDF accessible
- PDF vs HTML
- best practice accessibility for video and audio.
Each participant gets a workbook with key information, exercises, checklists and links to resources.
