Child Protection Guide for Families
Client:
NSW Department of Communities and Justice
Project type:
Easy Read
Topic(s):
- Early childhood
- Government and legal
We worked with the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (NSW DCJ) to create a suite of 6 Easy Read documents about what families can expect within the child protection system.
The suite includes topics like:
- helping children stay safe at home
- if your child needs to come into care
- staying connected to children while they’re in out-of-home care.

Our editorial team used language that was clear, easy to understand and consistent across the suite. We also focused on using trauma-sensitive language and images throughout. Our studio team developed an engaging and distinct icon style to make the suite of documents cohesive.
This suite is important for the NSW community as it provides clear and direct information about what children and parents can expect within the child protection system. Caseworkers can use the documents to have conversations with families and help them feel ready to work with the NSW DCJ.
You can read the Easy Read suite of documents of the Child Protection Guide for Families on the NSW DCJ website. The suite is also available as a printable booklet and has been translated into 6 community languages.
