JobAccess website content audit
Client:
Australian Government Department of Social Services (DSS)
Project type:
Easy Read
Plain language
Topic(s):
- Disability access and inclusion
- Education and employment

We worked with the Australian Government Department of Social Services (DSS) to review their JobAccess website. The JobAccess website is a national hub for workplace and employment information for people with disability, employers and service providers. It provides easy to access information, advice and resources to enable more people with disability to achieve sustainable employment.

We reviewed over 400 pages of JobAccess web content. As part of the audit, we provided DSS with a formal recommendations report about what content they could merge, remove or update. After the audit, we did a plain language edit of all the webpages and wrote new content in plain language. We also converted the webpages in the ‘People with disability’ section into Easy Read.
We provided:
- content mapping, including text, videos and downloads
- draft information architecture for the website
- content design principles
- templates for the redesigned webpages
- advice on how to include Easy Read content, toggle buttons and tooltips for word definitions
- bespoke illustrations for the website.
In partnership with As We Are Research, we helped coordinate user testing of the plain language and Easy Read content. We created a mock website, which allowed us to collect valuable information about how people navigate and use the website. We used this feedback to improve the quality and useability of JobAccess. This included clarifying confusing information and making the website more accessible for audiences.
