New Aged Care Act consultation summary

Client:

Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care (DoHAC)

Project type:

Plain language

Topic(s):

  • Older Australians

We developed a plain language summary of the new Aged Care Act exposure draft for the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care (DoHAC) to support consultation on the new laws for aged care.

The new Act aims to create a rights-based framework that focuses on what older people need. The exposure draft gives the community a chance to learn about the proposed new laws and provide feedback.

Working to a tight deadline, we edited key points from the Act into plain language. This involved simplifying and explaining difficult concepts and reducing the overall reading level. Our editors also introduced structural changes and made recommendations to help readers better navigate the complex content.

We are proud to have worked on the summary with DoHAC, knowing it will benefit older people and the community. We hope by making this information more accessible, more people will be able to engage with the process and share their views.

The consultation period ran from 14 December to 8 March 2024. You can find the plain language version of the consultation paper on the DoHAC website.
